Questions

The honest
answers

The things people actually ask before they start. If yours isn't here, just ask me on the application. There are no silly questions.

Am I too old for this?

No. There's no age limit here. None at all. Most people run their first trail race in their late 30s, 40s and beyond, and plenty start in their 50s and 60s. I started at 44. Your body adapts at any age if we go at the right pace, which is exactly what we'll do.

I'm really out of shape. Can I still start?

Yes. There's no fitness prerequisite. We begin with walk/run, and if running isn't on the menu yet, we walk. That's not a lesser version of the program; it's how everyone begins, including me. We build from wherever you are today.

Do I have to race?

Not at all. A goal race can be a lovely thing to aim at, but it's optional. Plenty of people just want to be able to run, feel good, and keep doing it. Think of it like a Park Run: the goal is to improve and enjoy it, not to chase a result.

I'm scared of getting injured.

Good: that instinct will serve you well, and it's most of my job. Injury is the number-one reason beginners quit. We prevent it by starting slow, never increasing more than about 10% a week, and building simple strength from day one. Going too fast too soon is the one mistake that breaks people, and we simply won't make it.

How much time does it take each week?

We talk twice a week, and you'll run a couple of times a week to start, short sessions, around half an hour. It's very doable alongside a normal life. And because life isn't easy to plan, we adjust when things come up. Consistency beats intensity; a routine you keep beats a perfect plan you quit.

Will you give me a training plan?

Not a rigid, set-in-stone one. I'll absolutely help with your training, but we figure out together what's good for you, week to week, and change it when your life changes. Plans that ignore real life get abandoned. We build something you'll actually keep.

Where do I need to be based?

Anywhere in Europe. We coach over video, and being in roughly the same time zone keeps our two calls a week easy to schedule for both of us. You don't need to be near the Alps. You run on your own trails, wherever they are.

Are you a performance coach? I want to podium.

Then I'm honestly not your coach, and I'll say so kindly. I don't do podiums or fast-times-by-next-season. I teach people to love running and make a positive, lasting change. If you want to win races, there are excellent performance coaches out there for exactly that.

What does it cost?

Between €40 and €70 a week, depending on the support that's right for you. We agree the exact figure together on our first call, and you'll always know what you're paying before anything begins. Nothing is charged until we've talked and signed a simple contract.

How do we actually start?

You send a short application. If it looks like a fit, we have a free, no-pressure chat to get to know each other. Only if we both want to go ahead do we agree on the details and start. That's the point where the coaching and the cost begin. No commitment before then.

What if life gets in the way?

It will, for everyone. That's not a failure, it's just life, and it's built into how I coach. We adapt around your weeks, not the other way round. Something is always better than nothing, and the hardest part is just putting on your shoes.
